From mom--
My daughter had to get an excision biopsy. Though she didn't get to use it near her biopsy site (for obvious medical reasons), she held Buzzy in her hand, and he was a great distraction. That is no small feat during a small surgical procedure!!

Dear Dr. Baxter -
I'll tell you about my own experience. When I went through the fertility treatments last year, which as you know involved two IM shots of progesterone in the hips each day for several months, I was overwhelmed with the idea of the number of shots and the anticipation of the pain each day. When we used "Buzzy" I was really surprised that I could not focus on something besides the pain. It was really a life saver. Eventually, I was able to relax even knowing that I was going to get a shot because I would not feel any pain when I used the "Buzzy." I got to a point where I could even give myself the shot. We are looking forward to getting a prototype. I wish I had been able to use one when my daughter was growing up. It used to take several nurses to hold her. It was an extremely stressful experience for her and me every time we had to go to the doctor. -A.R.

Buzzy in the Republic of Georiga!!
ReplyDeleteHi Amy,
It was so nice to meet you in Boston. How are you doing?
I was thinking to write thank you letter for Buzzy before, but after long trip i was "disoriented". When I was back I introduce BUZZY to my nurses but yesterday I experience myself how it works. I accompanied 7 years old boy with mild developmental delay (before heart surgery) in lab, he refused to have a blood check, he was not listening and fighting and screaming. even his mother couldn't make him sit still and show his arm. I offered him Buzzy, described him what it would be like. He start listening and agreed to use it for blood check. He became cooperative, and allowed nurses to make their job, He was extremely anxious and continued crying after stick, but we did it. BUSSY helped him and us!It was fantastic! Thank you so much! and I'll share with other cases too.
take care

So many great things have happened lately! First, a huge thank you to the Australian Association of Hospital Play Specialists. It was exhilarating and humbling to be able to speak at your 6th Biennial conference, and I am still dumbfounded at the beauty of the Sydney Opera House and Luna Park across the harbour. You are all making such a difference in your communities, and have definitely inspired me to work harder in mine.
ReplyDeleteWe received two wonderful new testimonials, both from a nurse working with patients with diabetes and from someone who was delaying having a child out of fear of the rubella vaccine! Buzzy helped both change their lives- may sound melodramatic, but in each case the ramifications of needle pain seemed pretty intense. Thanks for taking the time to write.
In an abundance of good news, we appreciate the shout out in the 2011 AAP Immunization Initiatives Newsletter recommending Buzzy for Vaccines! Mind you, we are still getting data and currently only know Buzzy helps for ages 4+, but they also rightly advocate for distraction: our Bee-Stractors certainly fit that. By the way, the new larger Big Boy Bee-Stractors (with Monster V. Alien as seen on our Hi Tech distraction page) will be availble in May!
